Summer Hair Care

Ahhh! It's been over a month since my last post! Time goes by so quickly! We went on our wonderful vacation to Saint Lucia (it's absolutely beautiful and I recommend it to anyone looking for a romantic Caribbean getaway), and we've been back for almost a month and I'm still suffering from post-vacation blues! But I digress...

So now that summer is almost upon us, what better time to talk about summer hair care? I already have a love/hate relationship with my hair...and it leans more towards hate during the summer months due to the humidity. Also, I spend a lot of time at the beach during the summer and it wreaks havoc on my hair. Between the salt water and UV rays, my hair becomes parched and straw-like if I don't take good care of it. I try to stay away from the blow dryer and styling tools, and just air-dry after each shampoo. Sometimes it sucks...I'll admit it. I like straightening my hair, or creating those fun, mermaid-esque waves. But I can't do it everyday and I'm finally coming to terms with that.

Another thing that's a must in my summer hair care routine is deep conditioning, especially at the beach. I just recently started using a new deep conditioner as part of my weekly routine (Andre Walker Hair TKO Total Keratin Obsession Deep Conditioner). It's super hydrating...I'll post a full review about it separately. But, I've been using the WEN Sweet Almond Mint Re Moist Intensive Hair Treatment for quite some time. I take it with me to the beach and after frolicking in the ocean, I'll slather it on and let my hair dry naturally. Once I'm home, I shower and rinse the product out and it leaves my hair ridiculously soft and shiny. I used almost an entire container in Saint Lucia because I kept applying and reapplying after snorkeling and swimming. I think it truly saved my hair during our vacation.

If you want to go the more natural route, coconut oil is great for moisturizing not just your hair, but your skin as well. Apply it to your hair just as you would a deep conditioner, leave it on for 15 minutes or so, then rinse. Sometimes I use it at night, braid my hair, and wash it out the next morning.
